How to get to Owl Head Lodge
Here are instructions for driving to Owl Head Lodge. Please contact us if you’d like information about other transport options.
From Gulgong—5 minutes drive
You’ll spot our ‘Owl Head Lodge’ sign on several road intersections in and around Gulgong. You could follow any of these signs. However, here’s the simplest route from Gulgong township, with only 1 km of good quality dirt road:
- Take the Wellington Road out of town. Mayne Street follows onto Wellington Road.
- Take Wellington Road at the roundabout. You’ll pass the caravan park and hospital on your right.
- Continue for 3 km along this road to where the road takes a sharp bend to the left. At this bend turn left on to Bergalin Road—it’s clearly signposted.
- Travel 1 km along Bergalin Road (this is a dirt road, in good condition) and you’ll see our stone entrance gateway on the right-hand side. You’ve arrived!
- The Slab Cottage is at the entrance to Owl Head Lodge
- Owl Head’s office and reception area is just inside the entrance gateway, on your right.
- Follow the tree-lined driveway past the vineyard to the Glass Cottage and Studios.
From Sydney—4 hours drive
- Travel to Lithgow via either the Blue Mountains or Bells Line of Road.
- From Lithgow take the Great Western Highway and take the turn-off to Mudgee. This is before the Bathurst turn-off.
- Travel to Mudgee (1 ½ hours from Lithgow) and then on to Gulgong.
From the Hunter—2 hours from Denman
- From any of the Hunter towns travel to Denman, a short distance from Muswellbrook.
- From Denman travel to Merriwa then Gulgong, via the Golden Highway.
- From any direction, after you leave behind the CBD the drive is a delightful scenic trip through the picturesque valleys and ranges of the Blue Mountains and Central West.
